Dr. Robert L. Sandmeyer
Dr. Robert L. Sandmeyer, Professor and Dean Emeritus since 1994 of the College of Business Administration (now the Spears School of Business) at Oklahoma State University, is the exception to a long-established academic rule: “You can't go home again!” A Ph.D. graduate from OSU, he was hired by his alma mater in 1962 as a visiting assistant professor. For three decades he was one of OSU’s top administrators, serving terms as Interim Vice President for University Relations and Public Affairs, Interim Director of University Extension, and finally 17 years as Dean of the College of Business Administration (second longest serving OSU Business Dean). The scope of his activities at OSU is almost without precedent, and he spent much of his career energy promoting economic development in Oklahoma.
Even upon retirement, his influence at OSU did not end. Within days of his retirement Dr. Sandmeyer moved to Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates where he served as an adviser to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Dean and Faculty of the College of Business and Economics at UAE University. After a year in residence Sandmeyer continued to serve in an advisory role to the Minister and University for 12 years. He was author of the concept paper for the OSU School of International Studies, which was established in 1999. In 2001, building from his UAE experience, he helped launch the Executive MBA partnership program between OSU and UAE’s Zayed University, where he was serving as Dean of their College of Business Sciences. In 2004, Dr Sandmeyer served as a consultant for a USAID project in Amman Jordan.
Today, Dr Sandmeyer and his wife Loretta reside in Stillwater.
