Dr. Richard W. Poole is a highly respected scholar and educator by the scope and diversity of his professional and public service. As an educator, he served as a professor in OSU’s College of Business (now the Spears School of Business) in the early 60’s and became its dean in 1965. After leading the College of Business for eight years, he was tapped to be OSU’s Vice President for University Relations for the next 18 years.

For his public service, Dr. Poole was a member of the US Army Reserve, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He served as president of the Southwestern Economic Association and the Mid-Continent Research and Development Council, as well as other national associations. He served as a consultant and advisor to the administrator of NASA, to the US Senate Subcommittee on Government Research and to the Prime Minister of South Korea.

After his retirement from OSU, Dr. Poole chaired the OSU College of Business’s International Committee and traveled abroad teaching in China, England and Hong Kong, and helped establish faculty exchanges with a Korean University. In the late 90’s, he worked on the concept and establishment of OSU’s School of International Studies.

Dr. Poole’s numerous awards include the OSU Distinguished Alumni Award and induction into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame, as well as the Halls of Fame for the City of Stillwater and the OSU College of Business. Upon his retirement from OSU, he was recognized with the establishment of the Richard W. Poole Professorship for Excellence, an endowed professorship held by the Dean OSU’s Spears School of Business.

Dr. Poole earned a Bachelor of Science in business and an MBA from the University of Oklahoma and a doctorate in economics from OSU.
